Who are they to say you can’t be a planet… stupid scientists!

So we’re off to TN tonight for a few days so blogging will be light… wait, it already is! Not that anyone will notice, but I may blog from there if I feel like it.

When I was a kid growing up in Hell Orlando, my friends and I rode our bikes everywhere. We knew what time we needed to get home and that is when we would return. During the rest of the time we coould ride our bikes all over. Even on the ‘major’ streets we could ride down the middle of the street (there were no sidewalks) and still be safe, there was little traffic yet. Most of the neighbors knew us and we knew them. We either walked or (usually) rode our bikes to school. By the airport, there was an area that people could park and watch the airplanes land and our parents would take us there sometimes. The planes flew so low that you could hit the bottom of them with a rock if you wanted to. I don’t really recall what airport security was like back then as being a kid I didn’t much care. I doubt that it was much and seeing as the few times I flew, it was to Colombia SA, I imagine most of the security was for drugs.
Times have changed, the roads I rode down the middle of are now dangerous four lane heavy traffic streets where a bicycle would quickly end up splattered on the front grill of a car/truck. I would be afraid to let my daughter ride her bike to school for fear of all the nuts out there, and because she would have to cross the aforementioned streets. The place we used to go to watch the planes land has been closed since 9/11 because of security. As for airport security, we all know how that is. So what does this all mean? Do I want to return to those days? Sure, in some ways it would be nice not to have to worry about terrorist and flying and all the other things going on in the world. I’m realistic though, I know that won’t happen any time soon, if ever.
Last Thursday when the terror plot was foiled I knew that there was going to be new rules to security, sure it sucks, but it does little good whining about it. Some people would complain and ask why isn’t airport security good enough, yet bitch about the inconveniences they must go though and the loss of liberty. The Israeli airline El Al has the best security in the world, yet people complain about their measures. I think that airports and airlines could be almost 100% safe, the problem comes with those aforementioned whining people. If the airplanes were built with redundant systems, the best components available and got massive inspections before every flight, then mechanical failures would be a thing of the past. The problem being that people would not want to pay the high ticket prices required to pay for the plane, parts and inspections. Would you pay 10 times or more money for the assurance of safety or take the risk on a cheaper flight that is still safer then driving? Terrorism is another matter, flights could also be made terrorist proof too, but that would require massive inspections for explosives on every plane before every flight, anti-missle systems on the planes, body searches and even Xrays for swallowed and anal/vaginal bombs. How many people would be willing to spend the extra money for the anti-missle systems and inspectors needed, extra time before the flight for the inspections, be willing to disrobe and/or get Xrayed before the flight, and put up with armed guards on the plane to be sure terrorists are not on board? I don’t think very many would want to do that, especially when they whine about not being able to take ‘xxxx’ on board. So there is the rub, to get more safety means a loss of liberty, to get more liberty means a loss of safety, which are you more willing to give up.
The past is gone, but then in some ways that is good. In the good old days, blacks and women didn’t have the freedom they have now, seatbelts were not required, you couldn’t look things up instantly on the internet and you wouldn’t be reading a blog or even know what a blog is. The past is not what it’s cracked up to be.

Looks like Kevin Smith will be visiting Orlando on September 23.

So there is this controversy in Utah over a little league baseball game. One team was up by a point, but the other had a man on third and their best hitter was up. The coach of the team that was winning decided to walk the star hitter and the next batter struck out. So what is the big deal? Well it turns out that the batter that they struck out was a ‘scrawny’ cancer survivor and the parents are upset because they say the coach knew that. Well I say so what. If it had been a regular kid would they be complaining? How about if he had gotten a hit? In the major leagues they walk good hitters all the time. What did they expect him to do, lose the game? then the parents of his team would be pissed. Sorry to be so mean, but if they wanted to win the game then why the fuck was he on the team? They even say he was the worst player. Why did his coach put him on after the best player? Maybe a strategic move also? Maybe to clear out the bases before he comes up to bat? That leaves the possiblities of a walk too right. Sorry, I think it’s great that he was playing, but they can’t use him as a whining point if they lose, they can’t tie the other teams hands because they have a cancer survivor on the team, they can’t win the game because the other team couldn’t strike out the cancer survivor. Hey, he won against cancer, so what if he loses a baseball game.

Over on Wired they’ve pulled some articles because the writer faked his sources. Philip Chien also wrote Columbia: Final Voyage. We met him a few weeks back at a book signing where we got his book and CD and chatted with him for a while. I’ll have to look if he uses those sources in the book!

Halloween is fast approaching and our party is (I think) on the 28th. Of course this means it is CD time. Will there be a CD this year? Well I leave it up to you, if I get enough comments then there will be a CD, if not, then the CD nazi will say…”No CD for you!”. If you want a CD you MUST comment on as many posts as you can. Last years CD

Yesterday I was watching the Today Show before work and was surprised that they were talking about the heat wave and they said that it was not being caused by global warming and that we have had heat waves in the past and this was no different. I mentioned to RTE that I figured they would blame global warming because the MSM always blames any and all weather (hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, heat waves, record cold, blizzards etc…) on gobal warming, Al Gore can’t be wrong in their eyes. So last night I was watching NBC news and they were talking about the heat wave again and this time…you guessed it, they were blaming global warming and how it could be the only cause of the heat wave and that the record temperatures just had to be global warming(cause old records never get broken?). I’m not going to get into what I think of global warming here, that is for another post, I have to watch ‘an Inconvenient Truth’, first then I’ll post my thoughts on both the movie and topic.

Don’t let it tighten again. This is the time to act, fight, freedom is worth fighting for even if some would disagree. Take him out, take out the hospital, the doctors, break his grip while he is down, don’t let him or his brother have time to strenghten. Stand. The people have the power. Stand. Make him fall. Stand. Show the world that he is not what they show him to be. Stand. Show the world that freedom is better then repression. Stand. Show the world that freedom can be won. Don’t let him get up, don’t let the noose tighten again, never give in.

Show the world that Cuba does not need or want Castro

I remember there used to be a channel on cable that started about 25 years ago. They used to play these things called music videos, it was great, I used to watch it all the time. I wonder what ever happened to that channel, there’s nothing on TV today that is the same.

So there are two new commercials, one shows a woman with her son at the park as another woman and her son push her out of the way to use the slide. The other commercial shows a guy at the grocery store checkout buying tofu and other vegetarian shit and another guy behind him buying real food (all meat). So the sissy mom and the veggie ‘guy’ run out and buy Hummers. Now everytime I see a Hummer I think vegetarian sissy. Is this the image they really want to instill for the Hummer?

One last thing which I have mentioned before, I don’t think there are any guy vegetarians, just guys that are vegetarians because thier girlfriend/wife is.
