Trimming Steve

Posted in Stuff on May 30th, 2006 by sherlock

So this three day weekend I spent trimming the hedge on one side of our yard. We have hedges on both sides of the yard and I like them because they provide privacy to the yard, unfortunately they hadn’t been trimmed in a while and I hacked the one side real good. the other side has been done a few months ago, but I didn’t trim it as much as I wanted to so I will have to attack them again soon. It’s a very tiring task and my arms hurt, but they look good, still I dread trimming the other side. Oh and Rachel mowed over a mushroom!

To all our armed force out there protecting our freedom and our way of life, and to all the veterans that gave us the freedom we have today. Thank you.

Wanna see something really scary?

Rachel over at pereiraville wrote about the two arab men that boarded a school bus in Tampa, while this may have been an innocent act by two unknowning men, it could have been so much more. I have thought of this scenario before even before 9/11. I once even used a scenario like this in a story(it didn’t have terrorist, just a psycho), which while not written down, still flows through the ether of my mind fully written if only I were not to lazy to spend months typing it up. But I digress, the thought of these scumbags attacking a school, while inconcievable to most Americans and thought by the left and anti-war crowd as racist, is sadly a very real and easily done threat. Please do not… DO NOT take this as hypebole or a paranoid mind’s exercise in horror, sadly this HAS happened before and what the news report fails to state is that the hostage takers were islamic terrorists!

The schoolbus had been bought at an auction and repainted to look as if a working one, it pulls into the roundabout in the front of the school late, the number on the side just random. Class is already in session so no one is there to greet what should be a rush of students exiting the bus, no students do leave, the occupants are all terrorists and they are there only for one reason. they exit and quickly take up positions outside the exits. When the command is given they rush into the building, some staying to block the exits while the rest rush into the classrooms and force the teachers and students into the gym where there are fewer doors and windows to escape from. if done well and fast they could have everyone there before the police even get the call if not, well by the time the police get there and set up they will be where they want. Sadly they don’t really want anything but to kill and that is what they will do, but first they wait for the police to try to retake the school, they will set up booby traps and bombs everywhere so that they can kill as many ‘infidels’ as possible, it matters little how old they are as long as many of them are killed. The media would eat it up, 24 hour coverage, Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather would come out of retirement, President Bush blamed for the horror. The MSM would be having so many orgasms it’s a wonder they would be able to speak.

Now imagine this happening at several schools at the same time? How about hundreds? even if some fail, I think most would succeed. This is a war, we may not target civilians, the terrorists have no such restrictions. Think about that as your child boards the schoolbus.

I did warn you it would be scary!

Incomplete

So after giving Rachel a writing assignment last week, she has until 12 tonight to complete it. I don’t know if she will finish it. I may have to spank her for being bad.

Meet Cerebro

So we went to the Apple store last night to check out the new Macbooks, We left with the last one they had in stock! I needed a machine and the macbook fits the need. I plan on dropping in more memory today, and I have already installed photoshop, illustrator and other programs I need. It will hopefully help with my writing and designing since I won’t have to go to the computer room to work anymore. I still have the main system and I plan on upgrading it once the intel towers come out, but for now I can delay that.

Conflicted

Posted in Stuff on May 24th, 2006 by sherlock

I don’t think I’ve ever bought a computer for myself, I got a computer when I was in high school, but since then, all the computers I have had are ones I’ve built or used ones I have been given and have fixed and modified. We did get an iBook for Rachel when her laptop crapped out, and just a few months ago we bought the Mac Mini, but that was for use as a web server and after setting it up I don’t really use it. I plan on getting a new main machine when the intel towers come out in a few weeks, I won’t be able to get it for a while but hopefully before the end of the year, yet every time I think about buying a new machine I’m unsure if I should!

New Orleans re-elected Nagin as thier mayor…This is the man who left buses that could have been used to evacuate to flood and then blamed everyone but himself for the tragic aftermath. Sorry to say, the people of New Orleans deserve whatever they get!

Othercott NOT

Posted in Observations, Stuff, Time 2 Piss People Off on May 21st, 2006 by sherlock

So let’s check the numbers, OTH raked in $37m, TDC raked in….$77m and became the biggest opening movie of the summer so far (that won’t last long, with xmen and supes on the horizon). So I’m thinking the othercott failed, like I thought it would. Why? because anyone that would othercott the movie wasn’t going to see it anyway, Sure they may have increased OTH’s gross, but it did nothing to TDC’s gross, The people that wanted to see it went and saw it, and even tho’ OTH’s numbers were good, it wasn’t as good as most animated features do. So just like when the church launched a boycott against The Last Temptation of Christ, all the othercott did was give free advertisment for them, anyone persuaded to boycott or othercott was replaced by someone that heard about them because of the controversy. The other stupid thing about the othercott is that whether you gave your money to see TDC or OTH, you are basicly giving the money to the hollywood studios. And just so you know, we saw both movies and canceled ourselves out!

Well, you gotta have faith!

Posted in Time 2 Piss People Off on May 20th, 2006 by sherlock

Is the church so afraid that their flock’s faith is so weak that a mere movie or novel can shatter it? Is the flock so insecure of their faith that they don’t trust themselves enough to watch a movie or read a novel because it could shatter their faith? Isn’t faith just that…faith! Faith is the trust in something regardless of proof for or against. Real faith can not be shattered by a book or movie, something much greater should be required to shatter true faith, something deep and meaningful, not words or pictures. If a book can shatter your faith, did you truely have faith? The truely faithful, shown absolute proof of there not being a God, should say ‘God gave us the proof of his non-existence to weed out the ones that are weak of faith.’ If you are so easily swayed by words and pictures, maybe you should reconsider your faith?

Video Killed the Radio Star

A video of American Airlines flight 77 hitting the pentagon on 9/11 is about to be released. Sadly even if you can clearly see the AA jet hitting, the conspiracy theorists will just say it’s fake.

My Empire of Dirt

Posted in Past the expiration date, TMI on May 12th, 2006 by sherlock

Cause I don’t have enough people angry at me. I do things I don’t like just too be able to see my daughter, hell I’m still in this shithole of a state to be close to her. Even thought everyone loves to point out how horrible a dad I am over and over again. Why after all this would I even consider having another kid? Too create even more problems for myself? Hopefully the ticker goes out soon, I’m tired of it

No lunch for you…

My lovely wife posted on her site how Plan B was an abortion pill. Well let’s see what plan B actually does:
Plan B prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary), disrupts fertilization (joining of the egg and sperm), and inhibits implantation (attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterus).
Let’s take this one at a time then shall we? If it prevents ovulation then there is no egg to fertilize so I don’t think that this could be considered an abortion. If it prevents the egg and sperm from joining then that can’t be considered abortion either. That leave only the last way that it prevents pregnancies, it stops the fertilized egg from implanting. So would that be considered an abortion? Well considering that pregnancy starts when the egg implants into the uterus then no, not really. The body does not even start preparations for pregnancy(it starts producing hCG) until the egg implants and the longer the fertilized egg floats around without implanting the less likely it will survive even if it does implant. As it happens, even without taking Plan B, not all fertilized eggs implant. One last thing, Plan B is really just a strong birth control pill and works like the pill does, if Plan B is not available, just taking a bunch of BC pills would do the same thing, you would just have to calculate how many to take manually. There are also other ways to create this effect.
I have written before about my thoughts on abortion so I won’t go into that again at this time.
Since I’m not a doctor, I looked up things on various sites.

Where there is smoke…

Posted in House of horrors, Observations on May 8th, 2006 by sherlock

An alarm going off, that’s what it sounded like in the hazy half asleep state I was in. I tried to figure out if it was a dream or reality. The alarm stopped as suddenly as it had started and yet my mind lingered on it, had it been real? ‘Was that the smoke detector?’ said Rachel. I jumped out of bed and glanced around, I didn’t smell smoke, the alarm was silent. From our bedroom we could escape to the backyard through the sliding glass door if need be. I headed to the bedroom door and checked the doorknob, it wasn’t hot. I calculated the trip to the kitchen and the cabinet where the fire extinguisher was kept. I wondered if there was just smoke or if flames were already engulfing the house. I thought of the irony of the fact that just hours before we had been thinking that we should draw up an emergency plan. I opened the door, stepped though quickly and closed the door behind me to keep the smoke out of the bedroom. The bedroom door opens out into the family room, from there you can basicly see most of the rest of the house. Glancing around in the light of the nightlights we have, I notice… nothing. No flames, no smoke. I looked up to see the green LED on the smoke detector right above me. I walked across the family room to the open hallway that the rest of the rooms are off of and looked up at the green LED from the smoke detector there. I took a deep breath… I didn’t smell any smoke. I searched the rest of the house but found no hint of smoke or fire. I had never heard the smoke detectors go off in this house before, at the old house they would go off while we were cooking but not here. Can smoke detectors go off without smoke? I had thought the only way they would sound was the test button and smoke. Can they have false alarms? I didn’t sleep the rest of the night thinking that the fire would flare up again.
