New Years Eve

Posted in Observations, Stuff on December 31st, 2005 by sherlock

Just over 3 hours to go in ’05. I don’t usually like to go out on NYE, mustly because there are to many idiots on the road, I would rather stay close to home. I used to live close to my brother (about a block away, and in the other direction was a family friend) we used to get together all the time. Since we could walk to each others houses, it didn’t matter how much we drank. Now I’ve moved to a new home, it is only a few miles from the old one, but my brother moved much futher away so we can’t get together as often as we used to, it’s mostly my fault because I hate driving way the hell out to where he lives now, especially on a moron driver night like tonight.

Last Call

It’s the last day of ’05. I hope almost everyone out there had a good year and hope that ’06 is even better for you…. unless you are osama or the cunt, or micheal moore, cindy sheehan, or any of the other morons out there.

WTF? Everyone on our street got a new trashcan provided by the city of Orlando… Except us!!! Those bastards skipped our house. The city is going to hear from us. I want my trashcan, they are huge! Bastards.

Halloween CD

Posted in Stuff on December 29th, 2005 by sherlock

I’m changing the rules, I am limiting the CDs to a max of 10, if more then 10 people ask for one then the ones who comment the most will get them. I also won’t ship outside the US. :) So start commenting.

Love it or leave it?

Posted in Brain Vomits on December 28th, 2005 by sherlock

Well I guess I’ll continue this discussion here. Rachel made a post about the kid that wouldn’t stand for the flag, I disagreed with her on some points and said so in the comments. It was pointed out that Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t allow the pledge and I pointed out that foreign students may not want to say the pledge. This of course brought out the old ‘Love it or leave it’ cry and that foreign students should get their education in their own country. Having been a foreign student myself, I can’t hold that view. Most foreign students are NOT terrorists as was implied, and while terrorist do come to the US to get educated, that doesn’t mean we need to punish all foreign students. It is also a fact that except for college/university students, foreign students don’t really have a choice where they get educated. A friend of mine went to school in Kuwait, he’s an American, he had no choice in the matter, his dads job forced him to go there, should he have to ‘pledge his allegiance’ to Kuwait while he was there? There are British, French (unfortunately), Australian, Canadian and hundreds of other foreign children here in the States for various reasons, should we say ‘Fuck you, get educated when you get home you terrorist bastards’? Then there’s the JWs. What do we do about those unpatriotic bastards? We can’t tell them to go home. How about a baseball bat upside the head until they show a little respect? (Duane, bring a bat with you when you come over on Friday’s so we can teach you the pledge.) Hmm, maybe that would be when they would want the ACLU? But, then the ACLU is evil and this would prove it.

Halloween CD

Posted in Music, Stuff on December 27th, 2005 by sherlock

OK, I know a lot of you were disappointed that the annual halloween CD wasn’t handed out (I was in Jersey on a shoot and couldn’t finish it), at least the ones who know about it. So here is the deal, the music is all done, and it’s pretty good if I do say so myself. It is probably the least explict one yet, but it has a very, VERY bad quote that makes it not kid friendly. I plan to have the CD case finished by January 7th (I have to give myself a deadline or I won’t do it). That being said if you want one it’s yours for free, you just have to ask for it, But don’t ask me for it directly, you have to ask for it in my comments. Ask for it in this post AND then comment on any other post that I do between now and the 7th (not on past posts). The comment to this post can be just who you are and that you want one, but the other comment has to be a good comment. If I know you i’ll get the CD to you, if I don’t then I’ll have to get your address to mail it to you, but I’ll do that when it’s done. So that’s not to bad a price to pay is it, two (or more if you like) comments for a CD. So start commenting. If no one comments, then I get the CD only for myself.

Hopefully things will be worse in 2006

Posted in Observations on December 27th, 2005 by sherlock

on CNN there is a headline that reads ‘Bush hopes for a better year in 2006. WTF? I have seen it on several news sites in various forms too. Does anyone out there really hope for a worse year?

‘Hey Bob, how are you?’
‘Well I’ve had a really bad year, my wife left me and took all my money, my dog died and my car was stolen… but hopefully next year will be worse!’

yea, guess you hear that all the time.
I know I have had a pretty good year, great new house, new car, Rachel has a new job she likes, but I hope next year is much better and I’m sure everyone out there, wether your year was good or bad wants a better year next year. I know the MSM just wants it to look like W has had a really bad year, but please. Come to think of it, there is someone who wants to have a worse year next year, the MSM! Unfortunately for them, they probably will have a worse year, in their profits that is!

Today

Posted in Stuff on December 26th, 2005 by sherlock

Well, just to post something for today. We were at Disney for the day with my daughter, I was in some pain and probably would not have gone but I couldn’t disappoint her. I may post more of the adventure tomorrow if I fell like it.

Turgoosen

Posted in Stuff on December 24th, 2005 by sherlock

The turgoosen is done, though it doesn’t look as nice as some I’ve seen. I think it is because the turkey was way to small to fit the du… er goose and chicken in it. It was only about 10 pounds, the recipe says to use a 20 pound turkey, but I didn’t want to make that large a bird so I choose the smallest of each. Still, I think it looks good.

The downward spiral

Posted in Stuff on December 22nd, 2005 by sherlock

Yea, I haven’t blog much, it happens, I tend to do that when I’m busy or depressed or drawing a blank. Today I’ve mostly had a headache that keeps popping up. On top of that is the fact that I hate christmas pretty much, the only part I like is watching my daughter opening her gifts (and mine when she was younger). Well, I also kinda like the music, mostly because Rachel makes me listen to it. You probably wouldn’t believe it seeing how much christmas lights are on the house. Tomorrow I have to work and it’s going to be a busy day for me, everyone seems to want changes for the beginning of the year and we start those tomorrow, and seeing as the only person that can do them, I have a huge stack on my desk that has to be done for Monday. looks like I’m going to lose a lot of vacation time since I wasn’t able to use them, happens every year.

Kong review

Posted in Movies on December 21st, 2005 by sherlock

Well I promised to review Kong so here it is. The story is almost the same as the ’33 movie, while weak it is straightforward and basic. the graphics are, of course, great, Weta is on par with ILM in the effect department. The biggest problems I think are the pacing, it’s a little slow at some points and the slow motion Jackson likes to use grinds the whole thing to a halt. Like when Kong finds Anne in NY, where does everyone go while they play in central park? The empire scene lasts forever, The story is a sad one, the too long ending just drags it out more then necessary, they could have safely cut 30 minutes or more from the 3 hours. Jack Black is both good and bad, he’s only good when he’s funny, so luckily he’s mostly funny, But the serious scenes he tends to fall flat. The rest of the cast is good, but of course the main star is Kong, and he’s the one that really shines here. I’ll give it three and a half stars out of five.

Nip / WTF?

Posted in Movies on December 21st, 2005 by sherlock

The season finally of Nip/Tuck was last night. What a disappointment. It’s a cop out to have the carver(s) be someone who wasn’t there when the killing started. He was in Atlanta, why would he come to Miami to kill? She was in London. They had better people to make the carver. I don’t think I’ll be watching next season, this season was way too disappointing.

Deal or no deal?

Big Brother?

Posted in Stuff on December 20th, 2005 by sherlock

So everyone is freaked about the ‘spying’ in the US that’s going on. The MSM is all up in arms about it as are the democrats, what they don’t mention is that the calls that are monitored are the ones to and from suspected terrorists from outside the country. So unless you are expecting a call from Osama or his minions, you have very little to worry about, and frankly, if Osama orders pizza, then I sure as hell hope they find out what toppings he likes. They could deliver it to him via tomahawk bunker buster. As for the democrats denial about knowing about the spying, hard to beliave them when there’s a memo from one of them talking about the briefing on it from 2004. The 911 terrorist were in the US for months before the attack, I’m sure they called their pals outside the country, if only we had been listening.

Kong

Posted in Brain Vomits, Movies on December 17th, 2005 by sherlock

So I have heard that some people are calling King Kong racist. The reasons they give are that the white man goes to an island with savage natives, and captures Kong, who likes the white women, to bring home as a slave. Well, I guess that might be one interpretation, but then again, almost anything could be seen differently. Over at Protein Wisdom, Jeff Goldstein had his class look at Curious George in three ways, One as a queer theory, one as a feminist theory, and one as post colonial theory. All three could be argued as plausible, but maybe in the end it was just a story about a monkey. Sure, some books do have hidden meaning, the book Starship Troopers had an anti vietnam slant, Irobot was a slavery/freedom tale. In Irobot, most of the robots were male, could it be taken as a queer theory? There is a reviewer on Amazon that has different takes on books such as Green Eggs and Ham. As for Kong, I’m not convinced about it’s racist slant. What kind of natives would you expect to find on the island? Peter Jackson used natives from New Zealand. Do you think there should have been blond, blue eyed natives? I think those are in the ‘King Dong‘ movie behind the curtain at the video store. As for capturing Kong and bringing him to display, How do you think Seaworld got Shamu? I doubt that in the thirties when the movie is set, there would have been as much paperwork. Hell they would have gone back to get the dinosaurs. That is probably true even today. As the lawyer in Jurassic Park says, ‘We can charge whatever we want’. I saw more of a beauty and the beast movie. Maybe it’s just the racists that see it as racist
