Don’t these idiots have a dictionary? The dumb newscaster, Raoul Martinez, doesn’t even know the difference between “execute” and “assassinate.” On the 11 o’clock news tonight on WESH 2, Raoul “misspoke” (according to the woman at WESH to whom we called and complained) and said Saddam is going to be assassinated. ASSASSINATED! I could believe it was a case of mis-speaking, as the spokeswoman tried to explain, but for the teleprompter that newscasters generally read.

Peter sent another email from Afghanistan over night. Until I get his permission to post the whole thing, I think it is important to post this excerpt (emphasis my own):

The election results have caused us a bit of a problem here. The Taliban are telling everyone that they are winning the war and that the Americans are cowards because we voted for the peace party. Since the election the Taliban have stepped up their attacks because they believe victory is near. Usually, in November the fighting stops until April, but not this year. You should hear what Al Qada is saying, they released a tape the day after the election in Pakistan telling their supporter, “Soon we will drive the American Satan out, Devil Bush and his henchmen are gone and the weak have taken America over. Now we will take the Jihad (Holy War) to the shores of America, where we will kill the children and wives of the infidels”*** “We vow not to stop until we destroy the White House, even if it takes us a 100 years” “Death to America, Death to the Jews”. Now there is a picture of what we are dealing with. To them this is a religious war and they will not stop until the world turns to Allah. They intend on bringing the war to American. We are going to be at war for a long time, if not here back home.

These bastards bomb schools with kids in them. Every time we mistakenly kill a civilian the news makes us out like animals. These fanatics attack us then grab women and children and continue to shoot at us, who are the real animals? Lately, the Taliban have taken to executing people with college degrees or attending college because they are evil. “All you need to know is in the Koran, so those who study are Zionist trying to make us submit to the will of the Jews”. These people are just crazy, and you can’t reason and negotiate with crazy uneducated, religiously brain-washed people. The distain and hatred they have toward Jews and Christians is unbelievable. There I have to pontificate a little in each newsletter so why stop now. I don’t think people back home realize that even if we pull out this war will not be over, they will just bring it closer to our homes.

His email went into details about recent combat missions. I will only post it if he gives me permission. Peter also sent a memorial list. Please read the names, and say a prayer, and remember that these people died for us.

We have another box almost ready to send to Peter and his men over in Afghanistan. If you would like to contribute and help boost their morale a little, please let me know. Peter has been hosting a trivia contest for his men and gives out prizes at the end of the week, like tee shirts or snacks. And I know Peter has been anxious to receive more cigars. The last list he sent is posted here.
Please continue to keep Peter and all our troops in your thoughts and prayers. Next week is Thanksgiving. You and I will be feasting in our temperature-controlled homes; Peter and his men will be pulling another 24-hour shift fighting for our right to protest their fight.

Peter emailed from Afghanistan on Sunday. He gave me permission to post sanitized excerpts of his email.

…I just calculated that by the time I get home, I will have been in the army approximately 44 months out of the last 50 months. So much for a part-time job in the reserves. I just bought a patch for my uniform that says US Army Reserves “One weekend a month my ass”. Since 9/11 the reserves have been hit hard. They have calculated that close to 75% of the army reserves has been mobilized since 9/11. Also that about 20% of the force has been back three plus times. (I of course fall in that category).

Lately, we have had a lot of attempts at breeching our perimeter, and someone planted a bomb two days ago in one of our vehicles. The IED attacks have increased and it is much more dangerous to travel by vehicle. Since last email we lost two soldiers that were assigned to us.

As for the news, every time I hear it I get mad, because the media lies so much. My forces were out on a extended engagement and we killed 475 Taliban with no loses to us. However, the media was reporting we were getting our ass kick, I’d like to know where. They talk about the Taliban taking control of villages, another lie. They come in to a village when the army is out somewhere else, hold a press conference in front of city hall and say they took the place over. An hour later they are gone. That is like me going up and sitting in the AG’s Chair in his office when he is out of town and saying I am the AG.

The media reports that attacks are up because there are more Taliban, another fabrication. The Taliban have changed tactics and are fighting us in the open. We have killed more Taliban in the last three weeks than in the whole year. They come out in the open and claim more guys. More are dying and in fact we have devastated their forces. If we could go into Pakistan we can finish them in six months.

The media also says we have done nothing for the people. Also a lie, [edited] since the invasion have built 900 schools, 50 border control points, stood up 15,000 new Afghan Soldiers. Built two dams, 10 bridges, paved highways which they never had connecting the major cities. The economy is booming. Unlike Iraq, the Afghanis like us and keep telling me this has been the longest period of relative peace since the 1950′s. They also say unlike the Russians we pay for the goods we buy instead of just taking them. Everyone has spies here, even the French spy on us and report to the Taliban our movements, just doesn’t make sense. The Russians are getting involved with the drug trade and are also spying on us and providing aid to the Taliban via the drug-lords.

The media is not being truthful, why they would want to portray the US as loser I have no idea. If we lose, gas gets more expensive, more layoffs, higher taxes. I guess they rather sell papers and shows than make sure Americans prosper. Plus all those media people are rich, so big deal a bad economy doesn’t hurt me, but helps my bottom line.

I had someone tell me, you Americans are spoiled you have a great life but still complain. In the rest of the world things go bad and are happy when something goes well.

So I’m at BJs wholesale club buying the industrial size can of ‘whole chickens’ when I decide to go by the book section and check it out. So after seeing that the paperback I had bought a few days earlier with coupons was cheaper here(of course.. luckily only about a quarter) I started checking out what else they had. I notice what appeared to be a cookbook so I picked it up and see its called ‘pescdo’. WTF? well, I must have picked up a book in spanish, so I started looking at the other books on display….holy shit, we must have driven to the BJs in Mexico, HALF the books are in spanish, what the fuck is going on? Give me a fucking break, this is America, LEARN TO READ ENGLISH YOU DUMB FUCKS. I can handle spanish books in a large book store in the spanish section, I could handle it in the tourist section, I could even handle a few books at BJs, but half? If I got to a grocery store in another country (france, Germany, Russia, or even one in a South American country) would half the books be in anything but the native tongue? I saw very little english in Colombia when I was there but for a touristy area we went to. THIS IS AMERICA, we speak English assholes. One last thing for any idiot that decides that I’m some redneck racist, I could read those spanish books just fine being an AMERICAN of latin decent.
